B-schools: Big companies return for hiring

The Economic conditions of various economies were drastically affected, beginning last September all over the world. Thus, this situation affected most management institutes. The regular campus recruiters had changed their usual patterns of hiring which had an adverse effect on the both summer and final placements across management institutes in the world.

Mumbai the financial capital of India which surely is one of the place for the top B-schools in country has enough reason to talk about their summer and final placement this year. They have all managed to rope in the good companies during the current summer placement, starting from FMCG to the much in question banking and financial services sectors. The B-Schools in Mumbai usually start their final placement process earlier than other institutes. The recruitment commences by December and terminates by February.

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management studies (NMIMS) has strength of around 400 students. Among which 300 students have enrolled for a full time MBA program.   The other students specialize in various sectors like banking and capital markets.  The recruiters, who visited Narsee Monjee Institute of Management studies (NMIMS), include:

  • Normura
  • ICICI Bank
  • JP Morgan
  • GE
  • M&M
  • L’Oreal
  • Britannia
  • Idea Cellular.

L’Oreal and Idea hired eight and five students respectively. “All the sectors are again visiting the campus to hire students, including financial services sector. The situation has definitely improved when compared to last year,” said the institute’s vice-chancellor, Rajan Saxena. The institute will take longer, to complete its summer placement process, as the strength of the institute is more.

SP Jain Institute of Management & Research follows, a slightly a different pattern. At the end of the first year the students work for an NGO and go for autumn internships in their second year. This is between September and November. The recruiters, who visited SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, include:

  • Microsoft
  • Citigroup
  • P & G
  • HUL

Microsoft recruited 22 students this year, while 15 joined Citigroup. Other recruiters include P & G and HUL. “We had 200 offers for the batch of 175 students, which constitute 60 companies and the process was completed in a day,” said Abbasali Gabula, faculty in-charge of placements.

A placement report of various institutions is one of the parameter for selection of colleges among students for pursing their higher studies. Thus, summer placements across the Management institutes are definitely an indicator of what the final placements will look like. This year the apprehension was that the big names in the financial services industry might not recruit candidates in good numbers. Now that does not hold completely true given the above facts.
