Students in the Top Indian Management Institution have no “jobs”!! These students have turned entrepreneurs while still in college and will be creating employment opportunities for others. The different entrepreneurial ventures are diverse in their own way.

Tea lovers couldn’t find a better place until “Just Tea” an outlet came up in the IIM-Lucknow campus. Ghazala Tabassum along with 3 of her colleagues started this outlet within the campus which specializes in imported and exotic-tea making.

Students on campus have not left any area untapped as it could be the next big thing in business like from recycling household waste to making solar lamps or even selling scented candles.

Waste management is the government’s job is what most of us think, unlike Mr. Shalabh Agrawal (25) from IIM-Indore who sees a potential opportunity in waste management and intends to start his own venture wherein he plans to collect and dispose solid waste and recycle it through his venture . “In India, municipal corporations cannot handle wastes well. We will focus on door-to-door collection,” Mr Agrawal says.

A few students have already a business unit within the campus and they also intend to expand it from there. But a few of them are still working on their respective business plans without being a part of the final placements. For now the incubation cell will definitely be the place for these students as they want to make it out on their own from these top management institutes.

Which person will not want to be a part of something big? Everybody generally wants to be associated with at least one such “big” thing. Well the point is that the Internet search giant Google has emerged as the most sought after company for business and engineering graduates according to two surveys. The survey aslo terms the company as the world’s “most attractive employer” followed by close rival Microsoft.

Google holds the top spot among 50 businesses and engineering companies, according to a survey conducted global employer branding firm Universum.

About Google, the surveys said, “Google’s number one position is no surprise. Due to its remarkable brand image, students worldwide see it as a company they would like to work for.”

However, the second choice made by business and engineering graduates is different. Pricewaterhouse takes the second place for most B-school students, while Microsoft is the second best place for engineering students.

“The employers that feature in this Top 50 all have one thing in common: they successfully appeal to current and future talent, and they are aware of how scarce talent is,” Universum said.

The list of Top 10 employers for business students:

Google

PriceWaterhouseCoopers

Microsoft

Goldman Sachs

Ernst & Young

Procter & Gamble

JP Morgan

KPMG

McKinsey & Company

Deloitte

The list of Top 10 employers for engineering students:

Google

Microsoft

IBM

BMW

Intel

General Electric (GE)

Sony

Siemens

Shell

Procter & Gamble (P&G)

The global rankings based on the survey of about 1,20,000 students highlights the world’s most powerful employer brands and those companies that are “the most successful in talent attraction and retention.”

Students from the US, Japan, China, Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Russia, Spain, Canada and India’s top academic institutions took part in the survey.

The Gujarat government is using very innovative methods to provide employment opportunities to the youth of the African-orgin , Sidi community. They came to India as slaves around 500 years ago. The population of the community is around 10, 000 in Gujarat .The government has planned to create “Little Africa” on the periphery of the Gir forest, which is going to be a theme based resort.

Pallavi Shukla, senior consultant to the state government for the project, said that development work would start by March 2010 and the resort would be functional in three years.

“Around 200 Sidi youth will get direct employment. Besides, there would be plenty of indirect employment opportunities as a ‘gram haat’ to display Sidi handicraft will be set up. Every evening there would be cultural events featuring Sidi ‘Dhamal’ dance troupe, which is very popular,” said Shukl

The IBM on the other hand will support the project . “The Rs 10-crore project, excluding the cost of land, would be fully funded by the Gujarat government. IBM will provide expertise to select a private partner to run the resort. It will also provide consultancy to market this ‘Little Africa’ across the world to lure maximum tourists,” said Per Yorgansen, project manager, IBM Denmark, who is in Ahmedabad for IBM’s Corporate Service Corps (CSC) program.

The resort would typically look like a Sidi village. Care has been take that the resort has the African look & feel. The resort would also have a museum.
