“More than half the number of cars sold in India wear a Maruti Suzuki badge”, the opening statement in the official website of Maruti Suzuki, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan.

The leading Indian carmaker will be expanding its operations in the consumer driven market. Maruti Suzuki, will hire 3, 000 people in span of next 3 years. Maruti,  currently employees 7, 500 people.

S Y Siddiqui, head of human resources at Maruti, which is 54.2 per cent owned by Suzuki Motor Corp, said the company would add 500 staff to its research and development (R&D) and design departments, including about 20 from Europe and Japan.

“The idea behind hiring from overseas is driven by their specialized skill sets in design. We are looking at an R&D strength of 1,500 people by 2012 as by then we will be fully independent in R&D,” he said.

The company employees about 10 people from Detroit who master in specialized designs, he said.

The company is all set to reach the one million vehicle sales target in the current financial year.
